While getting to help visual, I 'white-washed' lots and lots of large canvas sections with gesso, then made more a of a dry-brush second coat. Then, when the gesso was dry I drew blue lines, (a perpendicular, red line was later added by the visual intern on the left side of the sections) to make them look like big pieces of notebook paper :) Some quick recipe notes were sketched in in a few random places...the concept is to make big, slight-crumbled and well-used looking recipe notes in the kitchen section. Flour was an inspiration for the kitchen section this spring, also; I like that the pieces of 'notebook paper' look like they might have some flour that was accidentally dropped on them, (which is what my cookbooks and recipe notes usually end up looking like after I've cooked while using them). I brushed the gesso on to look messy but balanced, (it felt like i was at home working on one of my paintings :) ).
