i got to go to some of the galleries on the DADA gallery walk here in dallas this past weekend with my friend from anthro thats also an artist; the last place we went to was the MAC (McKinney Ave Contemporary) because it stayed opened the latest; one of the three shows they had was called Watershed by Billy Hassell....i actually thought a lot of his paintings had really, really beautiful arrangements of color and had a kind of mysterious and quirky feeling to them, but I had to laugh because I had just finished reading Swamplandia! and it's about a family that was running an alligator theme park in the swamps of Florida and they would refer to an alligator as a "Seth" hahahaa (and would make other jokey details about it being an alligator theme park, "if the older customers get cranky just comp them some gator tots", that kind of thing). i don't know why that makes me laugh so much-probably because my husband and i always think its hilarious when an animal has a human name you'd never associate with an animal (like calling a dog Greg, Kevin or Michael or something). anyways, i couldnt find one of the more beautiful and rainbow-ish paintings -or the actual one of the alligator aka seth- online to copy and paste but this was the thumbnail on the MAC's website so you can get an idea, ".........oh mm hmm and here we have a large oil painting of a seth...," thats what i thought and made me laugh like a little wierdo. i dont know. ooookay i get to paint today! im excited, talk soon
