aug 30th. anthro wall

about a week and a half ago, i was able to paint a focal wall in the Anthropologie where i work, -AND i was given free reign to paint it in my style, too!! :) the visual manager and display coordinator said that they were given guidelines of the feel that they needed to create in the display (wispy and soft with spots of solid color, even pushed a little in the direction of referencing "Ethnic" prints; and they said it reminded them of the way i paint..). we used house paint in bright purple and blue, light grey and a sunflower yellow-all mixed to different degrees with white for variation. the visual coordinator added some really beautiful, vertical lines in chalk to mimic the drips and movement of the strokes i'd gotten to make-the chalk lines really draw the whole wall together and add interest to it..when you see it from far away, when you first walk into the store, it looks like shimmering, moving colors; and as you get closer, it reminds me of how different shades of iridescent color reflect and move within rain drops (with shaded sunlight and darkness against them.. etc, etc). i'm so excited because that prominently located backdrop (for different, changing displays), will be in our store into next year after holiday season's passed! yip!!!

yay!

aug 5

3 days until my show opens! yay! we installed the paintings yesterday AND!!!!.. painted the front wall (that will have the title and my name) PINK! it sounds kind of silly but its a really pretty, subtle pink and will tie everything together. -it sets the tone for the show, i think. I love it too because you first see that light pink and then when you've walked into the show, the next wall in the middle of the gallery that you see has a really dark blue, kind of eery, drippy painting on it ---so it's the juxtaposition that i love of sweet with the dark. -a little retro, soda-shopped feeling and understated sweetness with the creepiness. hooray.
tomorrow, light placement will be set and we'll finish cleaning the walls from the previous show; i'll also be able to take some much better pictures then of all the paintings so i can update my website in the next few days (before the show opens).
