apr. 20 hip hip hooray!!!

tonight i met with the curator of the gallery where i'll be having my first solo gallery show, YA! it's going to be at Mokah Gallery in Deep Ellum, (Dallas, TX) and will be up from the beginning of august until the middle of september, 2011. i'm thinking i'll name the entire show "sugary paint", but i'm not sure yet since i originally only reserved that name for 5 of my red and pink paintings (...it kind of well describes my whole body of work, thus far, though so we'll see, -i'll have fun thinking of possible names :) )anyways, i'll need to make about 4 more big paintings for it; i'm so excited about that because then the amount of new paintings, that reflect more of where i'm at now, will balance out my paintings from the past 5 years...it'll be a progression of this style of painting for me and i'm sooo excited!!! yip yip!

march 4. anthro, the beginnings of the spring concepts

Dandelions :)
most stores created more generic and natural looking flowers, but the (hp) visual team and me liked the concept of making something organic in a geometric, modern way. they look clean and starkly mathematical but you still immediately know what they are. bc of their large scale and how theyre placed above the customer's eye level, the customer can get a feeling of whimsy and of suddenly being much smaller...

i made the circles with wire i sculpted, wax paper and lightly spray painted scattered shapes (-again, minimizing and flattening what would be the natural, 3d shape). also tinted the dowel rods

playful blocks...geometric shapes and colors that simultaneously evoke memories of the 70's and feelings of current modernism
